The Beryl Benacerraf Fellowship

Beryl Benacerraf, M.D.

The Beryl Benacerraf Fund supports the Benacerraf Visiting Ultrasound Fellowship, established in 2022, as a tribute to Dr. Beryl Rica Benacerraf, a pioneer in the field of obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound and a GOHO Foundation faculty member.

Dr. Benacerraf was a world-renowned visionary and teacher of gynecologic and obstetrical ultrasound.  She was a consummate observer of anatomy and pathology, having published numerous groundbreaking studies and books on fetal and gynecologic disorders. In addition to her scientific work, Dr. Benacerraf was a passionate educator, serving as a mentor to numerous trainees, many of whom have become leaders in the field of diagnostic ultrasound.  She ardently recognized the power and quality of diagnostic ultrasound provided by well-trained physicians, which is the foundational principle of this fellowship opportunity.

The goal of this fellowship is to expand the ultrasound training of physicians dedicated to the highest quality imaging in women’s health care. The funded fellowship provides the opportunity for a subspecialty trainee in an area of obstetrics and gynecology, radiology and others, to spend an elective rotation of at least one month duration at a U.S. institution, learning to perform and interpret diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures under the tutelage of experts in the field who are not available at their home institution.

Please note: Applicants should not have previously received a travel or sabbatical award in the same or similar field of study.

Deadline to apply is September 1.

Awards will be announced October 1.

The applicant must be a fellowship level trainee at an approved program in the United States who can show a compelling dedication to ultrasound imaging with the goal of improving health care for women and fetuses and a passion to educate others.
